How do I detach a file type in windows 2k. By mistake I assigned my address
book (.pab) file to open with outlook and now when I click on the file a new
message open in outlook with .pab as an attachment and keeps looping. I want
to have the file back as an .pab so that I can import it to outlook express
to view my contacts.

What exactly did you do?
PAB's have no file association.
Nor has Outlook used one for years. Do you really think your address book
data was stored in a PAB? Highly unlikely.
