Thanks for halping me out.
I have only one windows log-on and profile. I am not getting any error
messages when opening Outlook.
I found 6 pst files and opened all of them in Outlook. They all contain my
mail and mail folders but none has the contacts. I was able to open my mail
in the inbox and send e-mai.
The only strange thing I noticed was that while locating pst files some
folders containing pst files looked faded in Windows Explorer.
Does the above tell you anything?
Only that I wished you had backed up your data.
This is inexplicable without more details.

Have you checked to see if your data accidentally got moved to a different
folder?
Outlook just does not lose data for no reason. It takes some definitive
action on the part of the end user.

Use the Folder List view.
Expand all folders.
Examine every one.

This may be a really dumb question and relates directly to where Russ is
sending you (BTW I think your ESP's great today Russ!) - are you in Mail
folders view????? You must in 2003 use the Folder List view to see folders
other than email ones (eg Contacts, Calendar etc.)

Do you mean none contains a Contacts folder? I simply don't see how that's
possible.

How did you specify the recipient address? Do you click To and select one
from the Address Book or did you simply type one in the To field?

That means the folders are "hidden" folders. For example, the folder
%UserProfile%\Local Settings (C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings) is a hidden folder, as is the Application Data folders both
parallel to it and underneath it (i.e.,
%UserProfile%\Application Data and %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application
Data). The default location for your PST is %UserProfile%\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. When looking for PSTs, it's a
good idea to enable searching in hidden files and folders.
