When upgrading from Office 1997 to Office XP my Outlook Contacts no longer
showed the bold alphabetized headings.  I had the view set up as Address
Cards and they were listed with the 'File as' Last Name, First Name, Company.
The 'Customize Current View' and 'Define Views' settings are the same as
they used to be and still appear to be correct with 'File As' to appear
first, and the heading to be bold, etc....As my Contacts are not in a
meaningful alpha listing, I now have to enter the name in the search box in
order to locate it.  What could have happened? And how do I correct this?  I
ran Detect and Repair and it still isn't corrected.  Any suggestions?

I'd suggest you clarify your post by at least telling us the view to which
you are referring and what you mean.
Outlook 2002 was not an "upgrade" to Outlook 97. There were versions in
between. I would never try an in place install over a version that old.

Sorry - I went from 2000 to XP.  I've never posted so I wasn't certain how
much info to include here.  I normally have my Contacts in Address Card view.
The shaded bar above each entry used to show the Last Name, First Name,
Company in bold type and was sorted alphabetically a-z.  This data came from
the File As field in each Contact.  The bar is empty now.   If I change the
view to Phone List or by Company view, the File As field is empty.  But if I
right click in any of these views and click on Show Empty Fields, it doesn't
list the File As field as empty.  Each Contact has an entry in the File As
field so I'm not sure why it doesn't show where it is being asked.  It looks
like the data in the File As field is not being recognized.  I hope this is
clearer.

How did you migrate your data to this new installation?
Have you tried to repair your PST file with the Inbox Repair Tool?
