Guys,

1. How can I delete duplicate contacts?

2.1 How can I import a .csv so that the File As saves the
contacts as FirstName LastName and not the default
LastName, FirstName (which is why I have MANY duplicates
now).

2.2 I have chaged the Default "File As" order to First
Last (in Options, Contact Options) but that doesn't help.

3. Replace Duplicates with Imported Items doesnt work
either so now I have THREE contacts for everyone that I
was trying to update!!

Tough problem.
Unfortunately, the File As... settings will not apply to imported Contacts,
only newly created ones. Is CSV the only format from which you can import?
Your best bet is probably to use one of the many third party duplicate
checkers.

Russ, thanks for pointing me in the right direction...

I resolved the problem by downloading and running a tiny,
free utility that I found on the Net (Outlook Duplicates
Remover V5). It was VERY slow but eventually did the job.
I think that I have found a way to ensure that the same
doesn't happen again and that's to copy/ import the
contacts from .csv or whatever into a separate (new)
folder and then to use the Move option in Outlook which
then gives the chance to "merge" new and old.

It does however appear that there is no way to import
contacts with the File As set to First Last - it HAS to be
Last First.
