In my Outlook, I frequently cannot find personal names that are in the
contacts list.   e.g. For Shirley Ward  I cannot use the 'Type contact to
find' pull down at the top of Outlook.  Also she does not appear in my
Contacts list when I click on To: button when sending an email.  I have to
scroll to find her contact folder then cut/paste her email address.  She is
filed as 'Shirley Ward' in the Contacts form.

When I type in 'shir' I get two listings (netiher of them are Shirley Ward).
Yet Shirley Ward exists in the Contacts View!

Any idea why?  None of my contacts are marked as Private.

Which Contacts folder is she stored in? Maybe your additional folders are
not set up properly.  Here's how in 2003:

View the Folder List  and right click each Contacts folder | properties, and
set them to enable as an Outlook address book.

Judy,
I only have one Contacts folder and "Show this folder as an email address
book" is checked.

2 suggestions from the pool of MVP talent. I hope this helps.  If not, try
recreating her.

If you have Contacts in the Contacts folder but they are not accessible when
you

click on the To button, check these settings:

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click

the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is the box
to

enable as email address book is checked?

If this is grayed out...

Go to Tools | Email Accounts, choose View or change existing directories or

address book. Is the Outlook Address Book present? If it isn't listed, add
it

and close and restart Outlook. If it is listed, then remove it and close
then

restart Outlook and repeat these steps to add it.

Might also be trying to search on First name while using cached

mode--especially since other Contacts do show up.
