When I click on the Activities tab for a contact, Outlook takes an
extremely long time to find anything. I tried it right now, and it
took 3 and a half minutes to locate email for the contact, which I keep
in a separate file for that contact. I finally stopped the search
after 7 minutes, even though Outlook was continuing to search.
My personal folders aren't particularly large. My Inbox has only 110
emails in it. My Sent folder is my largest folder, and that has only
340 emails in it. There is nothing at all in my Junk Mail and Deleted
Items folders.
I'm running Outlook 2003 (11.5608.5606) on Windows XP Home, Version
5.1.2600.
Suggestions?
TIA.

Are there a large number of items in any of the other folders (Contacts,
Calendar, etc)?

No. I don't use the Calendar for anything. I have two contacts
folders. One has 149 contacts, and the other has only 22 contacts.
And it's the smaller contact folder that I need to use the Activities
tab for.

Hmmm, I'd try to compact the PST file and also run ScanPST.EXE on it, just
to be sure.

I routinely compact my folders. As for the OST compaction, I see no
place for me to click on Microsoft Server Exchange in my Email
Accounts.
How do I run ScanPST.exe on my PST file?

Run SCANPST.EXE and it will present a browser window so you can navigate to
your PST.

Run told me that Windows cannot find scanpst.exe.

That's because the folder containing SCANPST.EXE is not contained in the
PATH environment variable. On my PC, I can find "Inbox Repair Tool" (which
is SCANPST) on the Start>All Programs>Microsoft Office>Microsoft Office
Tools menu. You might also see if you have, instead, Start>All
Programs>Microsoft Office Tools>Inbox Repair Tool.
If you have neither, click Start>Run and enter the following in the Open
field:
%CommonProgramFiles%\System\MSMAPI\1033\scanpst.exe
Click OK. %CommonProgramFiles% is an environment variable whose value is
usually
C:\Program Files\Common Files.

I did this, and it asks me for the name of the file I want to scan.

Of course. Browse to your PST. That's what Vince told you originally.
