Hi.  New here, Googled through past messages without finding an answer
to this question, hope someone can help.

When I'm doing my own mailings, Outlook's mailmerge is great.

But I need to email a mailing list to a vendor in XLS format, from
selected contacts, with columns of FullName, Address1, Address2, City,
State, Zip.

Is there a straightforward way of doing this?  (Outlook 2002 if that
makes a difference.)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you tried the File menu > Import & Export command?

Yes, but that doesn't export selected contacts, it exports all of
them at once, unless I make a junk contacts folder to copy all of the
selected contacts into.

Exporting selected contacts seems like a pretty common business task,
I'd hoped for a more direct approach.

A couple of caveats you may want to keep in mind if you use Outlook's export
function-

#1-The export function will not provide you separate street address lines.
It will provide separate fields in the output file if you've selected the
individual fields but you will find the enture strret address contents
located in the first field with each line separated by <CR> (carriage
return) character(s)

#2-In reference to "Full Name" - there is no such field in the export map.
The "Name" field which is the parent of all the name field components is not
the same as Outlook's actual "FullName" field and isn't usable. (For that
matter - Outlook's FullName field may also be far from useful even if you
used code to retrieve it). Best bet - export the name pieces you need and
then combine the fields.

I figured out a reasonable method, still not elegant by any means,
but I thought I'd post it in case someone else googles to this
thread.

How to Create an Excel Mailing List from Outlook Contacts:

1. In Word, create and save a mailmerge document for a Directory,
where each entry has the form:

<<First_Name>> <<Last_Name>> [TAB] <<Business_Street>> [TAB]
<<Business_City>> [TAB] <<Business_State>> [TAB]
<<Business_Postal_Code>>

2. In Outlook, select the contacts to be exported, and perform a
mailmerge to this Directory document.

Merge to a new document, then save-as plain text.

3. Open the plain-text version of the Directory with Excel, and the
import filter will convert from tab-delimited to spreadsheet.  Save
as a spreadsheet.
