i have two sets of contacts, one personal whose birthdays i do want to be
reminded of and one business (over 1000 people) whose birthdays i do not want
to be reminded of - i do still want to be able to find out there birthdays if
necessary by looking at their contact details.  is it possible to turn off
the birthday reminder in one contacts folder?

I'd think you'd have to remove the events that are created in the Calendar.

You can try using the Annual Events view to see all the items in one list
for pretty easy deletion
