When I go to address a message, the contacts in the  address window are
sorted by first name.  I tried to go to  Tools>options >contact options to no
avail.  All names continue to be by first name.  Can anyone help??

That setting is in the properties of the Outlook Address Book. If you've got
OL2003, take a look here: Tools menu > Email accounts > View/Change existing
address books or directories > Click Next > Highlight Outlook Address Book >
Click Change. The options are either First Name or File As
