GAL nicknames are incorrect

I have a situation in which the GAL' nicknames and thus the outlook cached
nicknames are incorrect.
For example if the username is Joe Smith, nickname should be <jsmith>,
however for some reason the GAL has it as <awilson> or something just as
strange.
I need to correct that but am not sure where to start.  I can delete the
outlook cache for an individual user (.nk2 file) but that does not help the
GAL.
Thanks

Any idea how the GAL entries became corrupted, or are they just incorrect in
the NK2 file?

You should probably review the following article as it may provide some
insight into the NK2 file.

We have a program that might fix your problem, but we'd need to know more
about what is causing the problem.  i.e., there's no point in proposing a
fix if something will just cause them to become corrupted again.  You need
to get at the route of the problem.  We'll be happy to review your NK2 file
if you want to send us one.  You can find us through the above link.

The GAL names are incorrect i think because they were imported from 5.5
and/or person took over another's position etc.. and they joined the same
mailbox.  This error is only on the GAL, the local user can easily be
corrected by deleting their cache, it is the GAL at issue.

You are correct, deleting the cache is ONE solution.  However, do yourself a
favor and get senior mgmt. to sign off on you deleting those files before
doing so.  Some people get extremely angry when you delete their
information.  We even heard of one person who was let go for deleting that
cache.

I don't know about your organization, but many people have come to rely on
that data.

When i say deleting the cache it is on a user's machine only.  It still does
not "fix" the problem with the GAL which is the whole reason for this post.
The next time the user picks the person with the incorrect nickname from the
post, it will reappear in the cache.
I appreciate your advice but i think it does not answer the question.

I think I understand your issue better than you think.  You have a problem
at two different points.  First, your GAL is incorrect.  And, whenever
someone autocompletes and entry, your NK2 autocomplete cache becomes
incorrect too.  Fixing the GAL is one half of your solution.  You will still
need to either delete the cache files on all desktops to eradicate the
erroneous info contained in them or correct the data contained within the
cache AFTER fixing the GAL.

Did I get that right?
