Compatibility issue?

I informed a user how to insert a distribution list into an e-mail message
and send it to other users offsite.  Some of the outside users reported that
when they open the distribution list, it is empty.  We are using Outlook
2003, but they are using Outlook XP.  Is there a compatibility issue?

No.
Perhaps you should have posted exactly what you "informed" these users.

I had the user insert the distribution list by going to (in the e-mail)
Insert -> Item.  Then navigate to the distribution list, select it, and
insert it as an attachment.

The users on the other end confirmed that when they see the attachment that
it is an empty e-mail message.  I had them send me a distribution list, and
it's the same thing - instead of it showing as a Contact Item, it's opening
as an empty e-mail message.

Is the message in RTF format? It needs to be if you want this to work.

That didn't work.  Do you have any other ideas?

No. It works for everyone else. You'd need to post detailed information for
us to figure out what you're doing wrong.

To insert the distribution list, in the e-mail message, I go to Insert ->
Item.  Then I navigate to the distribution list in my Contacts folder, and
insert it as an attachment.  I have done this procedure in both RTF and HTML
format.  When the users get it on their end, all that they see is an attached
e-mail message (not a Contact item), and when they open the attachment, it
opens as an empty e-mail message.

I have had them send me a distribution list as well, but I get the same thing.

I have tested this with internal users and a couple of external users (not
at the site above), and they are able to open the distribution list just fine.

I've never seen this fail. I wonder if some of these users might be marked
to have their messages sent in plain text only? Worth checking into.
