How do I remove the Country & area code from Contacts in Outlook

The auto format has begun changing all my numbers once they are edited in
Outlook and adding the Country code and area code to the number. For example,
landlines are now show as +61 (02) 9799899. I simply want them to remain as
9799899. For mobiles, it now shows the number as +61 (04) 5698900 rather than
045698900. How can I turn of the auto formatting or remove the country and
area codes.

Outlook uses the Windows dialing properties to configure the phone number
correctly.  Remove those properties in Control Panel and Outlook should
display the numbers as you entered them (which won't be correct, by the
way).

Thanks Brian.
I am still having trouble with finding the relevant area you talk about in
the Control Panel. You may have realised I am not terribly computer literate.
Can you direct me exactly where to go.
Thanks.
Grant.

What version of Windows?  For Windows XP using the Category View of Control
Panel, it's Start>Control Panel>Printers and Other Hardware>Phone and Modem
Options>Dialing Rules tab.

Brain:

I went to that area and did all the settings (i.e., Area, Country, Area
Code) and mine is still adding a "+1" in front of all of my numbers.  I did
NOT check the option in that area, so I don't know how to get it to stop
adding it.

Here's a message from Russ Valentine, posted a on Oct 5 that may help:

Actually this one is an Outlook option, not a Windows option.
Uncheck the option to automatically add country code to local numbers in
Outlook's Dialing Options. (accessed from Contacts > Actions > Call Contact
> New Call...)

I am experiencing the same problem with the + being added before all my numbers
I accessed the suggested menues and the bix is unchecked. Where do I go from

Explain the problem you are having more clearly. Include your Outlook
version.
