The FILE AS feature is inconsistent in placing last name, first name. I don't
want the first and last names to show on my view, but I want the contacts
organized by Company name, with (Smith, John) beneath it. They keep coming up
with (John, Smith). But some of them come up correct. I've checked and
re-checked my settings and I can't find what's different between the ones
which appear correctly and the ones which don't. Very frustrating!  Help?

There is no information here. Post your Outlook version, view, what
"settings" you've checked and how you configured those settings.

Settings mean the settings you specified for the File As... field.
I assume you know those setting will not apply to existing Contacts, only
the new ones you create.

No, I did not know that. That must be the problem. Because some of them are
fine, and some are screwed up. I highlighted all the contacts before I
changed the settings so I thought that would make it affect all of them. But
I guess what you're saying is that no global changes can be made? Crud. Is
there no way to change the existing contacts?

There is, but you'd need to use code to do it.
