You add Contacts to a Contacts Folder. You can't and shouldn't try to add
anything to the "address book." It does not exist. It is just a view of your
Contacts Folder.

Thank you for responding so quickly, but I'm still a little lost. You see I
didnt think I was adding them to the address book directly. So if I was, how
then do I add an entry in? Where in my steps did I mess up? Lastly, where is
the contact folder?

You said you clicked on the Address Book and then tried to add a new entry,
right? That's trying to add to a virtual view, not an actual data source.
Click on Contacts in the Navigation Pane to open your Contacts Folder, then
use the New... button to add a Contact.
