I am replacing Outlook Student/Teacher 2003 with Office XP (2002) Outlook.
The datafiles used with 2003 were migrated from 2000 so they are all
compatible.  My problem is that the contacts folder (which still contains all
its entries) is not by default used for the address book.  When I go to email
accounts, view existing address book it already shows the outlook address
book, but when I go to the properties of the contacts folder, it won't let me
select it for use with the address book (the box is grayed out).  What am I
doing wrong?

What you haven't done is add the Outlook Adress Book service to your mail
profile or its connection to the Contacts folders has been damaged.  Click
Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address
books>Next.  If the Outlook Address Book service is not there, click
Add>Additonal Address Books>Next, select the OAB service, then click Next
and Finish.  You may have to stop and restart Outlook, but the "Show this
folder as an e-mail Address Book" check box will be available then.  If it
is there, select it, click Remove, then Finish, stop and restart Outlook and
add the OAB service in as above.

I deleted Outlook Address Book from the existing address books.  When I try
to re-add it, I get the message "The account you have added is not fully
configured.  It might not work properly until re-configured correctly."  The
thing is, I did not add the account; it automatically configured itself from
the existing datafiles when I uninstalled 2003 and installed XP.  I have
tried completely uninstalling Office XP and re-installing it.  When I go to
View address books, the Outlook address book is not there and I get the same
message if I try to add it.

When downgrading, you should start with a new profile.  See

Setting up a new profile did the trick.  Thanks for your assistance.
