MS Office Forum / Outlook / Contacts / October 2005My contacts are not working properly.
My system crashed and I am trying to recover my Outlook 2000 SR-1 (9.0.0.3821) data. I found the Outlook.pst and restore that file. That got all my EMails back. Now, I'm trying to recover my contacts. When I look at the address book, I don't have any of my groups, but if I look at View --> Folder List I see all the groups and the Email address. How can I make these available in the Address Book and when I create a new message? Thanks,  SignatureNorm You need to provide more accurate version information: Internet Mail Only or Corp/Workgroup. IMO was an incomplete version of Outlook which borrowed heavily from Outlook Express. It used the Windows Address Book not the Outlook Address Book. Accordingly, the groups you created were never in Outlook and thus were not retained with its data. Most of us are glad IMO is long gone. Your problem was that you created groups in the Windows Address Book because that's what IMO uses. If you had created Distribution Lists in your Contacts Folder, you could have kept that data. IMO disappeared once Outlook was able to support Internet Mail Protocols in its full product. So any of the currently supported versions of Outlook would be far better so you don't run into any more of the gotcha's that IMO had.
