Outlook 2003 does not allow you to export contacts directly from public
folders.

We maintain a large number of client contacts.  Many of these are stored in
public folders allowing them to be accessed by several users.  Currently, if
we want to use these public folder contacts for a mailmerge we must first
copy them into a private folder for export.  This adds a step to an
otherwise simple process.  The unfortunate result of this is that end-users
try to save themselves a step by maintaining their own client contact lists.
Those quickly become disorganized messes because guess how many users are
capable of properly maintaining their own private copy of public folder
client contact lists?  NONE OF THEM!

The second problem generated by this issue is that the main contact list is
not kept up to date because everyone is attempting to maintain their own
contact lists.

Finally, we now have several lists on our servers which may or may not be up
to date and definitely contain duplicate entries wasting an unknown amount of
space.

Please, give us the option of exporting contacts directly from public folders.

While its true that you cannot export directly from Public Folder Contacts
there is nothing stopping you from mail merging from them as it works very
well, you just need to ensure that you start your merge from Outlook.
