It is fully backwards compatible. You need to describe more accurately what
you are doing and with what sort of information store for us to
troubleshoot.

Thanks for your reply.
I know it is probably not the correct way I have used,
(Select All) when viewing the contact list then (Copy) and
(Paste) to a folder on a Zip disk. I have then pasted that
back to the open Contacts on the Client it has worked
perfectly until now. The Source is now using Office XP and
this method does not work I guess I know the answer really
that is to do it the correct way (exporting and importing)
The trouble is I do not have access to the source as it
not in this country and I already have the data in this
format in vcard style.

I don't understand. To what type of file did you paste? A PST file is the
only kind you can transfer, and you must create that from within Outlook.

If you were not aware you can copy and paste the contacts
folder by the method i have outlined why dont you try it
then you will understand what i mean.
It copies them as Vcards but they are larger files.

Because you cannot and should not copy and paste Contacts that way, as you
have now discovered. It is not a supported method and is a bad idea.
