Why do some entries in contacts not appear when I open the contacts book or
auto address?  When I go to re enter the details the system tells me they are
already there.  Where??  Does any one have any ideas?

Sounds normal to me.
The address book should only display the Contacts with electronic addresses.
That's what it's for.
Autocompletion does not use Contacts data. It uses names from messages you
have previously sent.

Thanks Russ

I can see where you are comming from but I have put their email address in
as well as other details and I have sent at least one email to the person
whose contact details are giving me grief.  What do you think?

I think I need a clearer description.
If in fact you have a Contact with a valid, resolved email address that does
not appear in your Outlook Address Book then the only explanation would be
that you have created that Contact in a folder that you are not displaying
in the Outlook Address Book. Check your OAB configuration.
