Unfortunately, this is going to be within the purview of the developers of
the synchronization software, not Outlook. All Outlook does is provide a
consistent interface with which these programs interact. Categories are the
way to group Contacts in Outlook, but that field contains a string of
values, so results with synch software will be mixed.
Pocket Outlook via ActivSync tracks Categories very well.
Hot Sync on Palms does less well. It can handle only a limited number of
Category values.
Anything else is anyone's guess.
