Right click on your Contacts folder, choose Properties, go to the Outlook
Address Book tab. Make sure the "Show this folder as an email address book"
box is checked

A colleague of mine had a similar problem, only when i advised him of this
fix and he tried it the option to check the "show this folder as an email
address book" was not available (ie, shaded out) what do you think may be the
problem here?

He/She needs to add the Outlook Address Book service. In OL2002/2003 go to
the Tools menu > Email accounts > Add new address book / directory > Click
Next > Choose Additional Address Books > Click Next then follow the obvious
prompts
