Dave - 30 Nov 2005 17:17 GMT I recently switched from a SBS 2000 server to a SBS 2003 server. The problem is my contacts are there when I open outlook and click on contacts I see them at the top left, but when I click to send a new email and select to: I can't find those contact groups anywhere and do not know how to add them in the list.

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] - 30 Nov 2005 17:39 GMT Did you direct the Outlook Address Book Service to the new location of your Contacts Folders? http://home.indy.rr.com/russval/addressbook.htm#Lose

Dave - 30 Nov 2005 17:51 GMT Yes, I see all the contacts that are on the server, but I don't see all my old contacts, vendors, customers, and personal.

Dave - 30 Nov 2005 19:25 GMT Okay, I reset my profile, I get all the company wide contacts. When I open outlook and click on contacts I see my basic list of generic contacts, up in the left hand corner I see a section called My Contacts, and under that shows my various contact folders, customers, vendors etc... However, when I compose a new email and click on to: I can browse to the various company wide email addresses, and my generic contact list, I cannot get to my other various contact folders

- Right click each of your other various Contacts folders - Left click PROPERTIES on the popup menu - Left click the OUTLOOK ADDRESS BOOK tab - Click the checkbox "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book"
They may not show up immediately; give it a few minutes for your server to authenticate.

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] - 30 Nov 2005 20:56 GMT Then you must not have read and followed what I posted. If you had, you would see all your folders in the Outlook Address Book.

Dave - 05 Dec 2005 18:41 GMT I just took all my contacts and dumped them into the contacts folder. don't see a way to get it to work, or a way to create new contact folders... sucks!

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] - 05 Dec 2005 19:50 GMT It's very easy to do. I've posted the instructions. All you need to do is enable a Contacts Folder as an email address book in its properties and it will appear in the Outlook Address Book. To create a new Contacts Folder use File > New > Folder Perhaps you can tell us what you are trying instead and what isn't working for you.

Dave - 05 Dec 2005 20:02 GMT Okay, one more time... I had contact folders in my old outlook, vendors, customers, etc... NOW, in my NEW outlook, I have just contacts, no sub folders of vendors, customers etc... I've tried to make a new contact folder in the address book and I'm not able to, I've tried to do it under contacts and there is NO option to do so. I can create a new contact, or a distribution list but not a new folder of say Customers or Vendors or whatever.

Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] - 05 Dec 2005 20:10 GMT You don't create Contacts Folders in the address book. The address book is just a view of your Contacts Folders. It contains no data and is not intended for data entry. You create Contacts Folders in Outlook. As already posted, once you enable them as email address books they will appear in the Address Book view.

I don't know how else to try to get you to understand. Contacts.... ..Vendors .....various email contacts with email addresses ..Customers .....various email contacts with email addresses ..Misc. .....various email contacts with email addresses
All I have now is: Contacts ...and all my contacts mixed together.

Brian Tillman - 05 Dec 2005 20:44 GMT > We are just not communicating on the same page here. > [quoted text clipped - 6 lines] > ..Misc. > .....various email contacts with email addresses Those are all folders you created yourself. They are not ones supplied by Outlook.
> All I have now is: > Contacts > ...and all my contacts mixed together. File>New>Folder will allow you to create any folders you like. If you want other Contacts folders, just create them so they contain Cointact items, give them a name, and make them sibling folders (i.e., at the same level as your Contacts folder) or make them subfolders if you wish. However, may people find categories a better tool for organizing contacts than folders.
The "Contacts" view that you're using in the Navigation Pane may be presenting your information in a fashion you don't quite follow. Try switching to the "Folder List" view and then click on your Contacts folder.

Dave - 05 Dec 2005 20:55 GMT Geez, I'm just not getting my question across correctly.
I can organize my inboxes and folders just fine. What I can't do is create a new set of contacts in my address book.

Try > switching to the "Folder List" view and then click on your Contacts folder. Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] - 05 Dec 2005 21:05 GMT You could if you followed the directions several of us have now posted. We can't make it any more clear. State what you do not understand about them. The fact that you no longer have Contacts Folders that you once did simply means your data was not migrated correctly or you are not viewing your mailbox correctly. Folder List view will show all folders in your mailbox. Use it to see if they are still there. If not, you must recreate these folders in Outlook: File > New > Folder Once you enable each folder as an email address book it will appear in your Address Book view.

However, under contacts, you know when you what to send a new email, you click on to: then you select an email address you want to send that email to... in there I cannot divide out my contacts, I have all the contacts that I migrated over. I need to break them out of a mixed up contacts list. I have not seen any previous postings that would tell how this can be done!

You don't create contacts in the Address Book. Once you are done creating the Contacts folders you want, right-click each folder, choose Properties, select the Outlook Address Book tab, and check the option labeled "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book". They'll then appear in in the address book under the "Show names from the" drop-down.

willitsme - 12 Dec 2005 23:24 GMT If you Right+Click on the contact folder (in outlook) and click Properties. Select the Outlook address tab, place a check in the 'Show this folder as an e-mail address book' select OK
