Hello,

I am trying to import data from an excel spreadsheet.  I have created
customized fields, but when I try to do an import, the mapping list does not
show the newly created customized fields.  The list only shows the standard
contact fields.

Is there a way to resolve this?

You can't import data to custom fields using the standard Import function.
You need to either write your own code or get a 3rd party product (i.e.
ContactGenie - see URL below).
