I don't use Outlook for email, but I have all of my contacts in there. I'm
trying to do mail labels. When I go to select my outlook contacts as the
data source, it doesn't go any farther. In other words, it appears to select
the contacts folder, but doesn't continue with the wizard. It simply returns
to the document. I investigated some and discovered I have to 'personal
folders' in Outlook. One only has a recycle bin, the other has all of my
contacts, inbox, etc. I think the mail merge wizard is trying to use the
file that does not contain any contacts. I've discovered that the files are
in two slightly different locations, but I don't want to just delete one of
them. I've tried to move the contacts to the other personal folder, but it
says you can't move certain folders, such as contacts. Any suggestions?

are you starting the merge in word or in outlook?
did you try making a new profile - don't create an email account since you
only use it for contacts.

Close the file that is not your default.
If you don't use Outlook for email you can't do a mail merge.
Outlook must be your default mail program to do a mail merge.

I closed the one folder and it worked. Thanks.
What I meant by Outlook not for email, I meant that I only use my yahoo
account right now. I don't have another email program.
Thanks again.

That's fine. You don't have to use Outlook for email, but you must at least
have a mail transport installed for the merge to be completed.
