How to unprotect a write protected outlook 2000 "pst" folder

Transfering "contacts" from outlook 2000 to new computer w/ outlook 2003.
I've created a contacts.pst file and dragged it to a CD. When trying to load
it in the new computer going thru "Import and Export" procedure I end up
witha file that says the folder is "write protected". Assume that this is
something on the old computer.

NEVER import a PST into Outlook. There's never a need and you lose data.

That said, with Windows Explorer, browse to the PST, select it, and choose
Properties. Uncheck the "Read only" box. Click OK.

Now, in Outlook, click File>Open>Personal Folders File, browse to the PST,
select it, and click OK. Its contents are now available to you.

You are making two mistakes.
1. When you put a PST file on a CD it becomes read only. Move it to a hard
drive and remove the read only attribute.
2. There is no reason to import a PST file. Just open it in Outlook.
