After I saved my contacts they were filed according to last name, then first
name. (Doe, John) However, the "Full Name" display also shows the last name
first, e.g. Doe John.  I prefer "John Doe".

When I changed the "Contacts Options" default "Full Name" order to
First(middle)Last, it does not fix the problem for existing or new contacts.

Only half correct. You must change existing Contacts yourself. The setting
does apply to new Contacts.

In addition to what Russ has posted, depending on your version of Outlook,
and if you feel a little adventurous, you can use this to change your
contacts:

I tried it and it works - so, if I can do it, so can anyone else (note: I am
not a programmer).

After furious head scratching, Outlook Rook asked:

...except that he wants to change the Full Name field, not the File As
field. I don't know of a code sample to do that, but I imagine there is one
somewhere.
