I am importing an Excel spreadsheet and no matter what I set as the new
contact format, the imported records come in LastName, FirstName order. Is
there a way to have them in FirstName LastName with no comma in between?

You failed to specify the field to which you are referring. If it is a
derived field, you cannot control that when you import.

If this is a one-off import, you could try swapping the Excel columns. Maybe
they are designated the wrong way round in the first place?
I suggest you do whatever it takes to ensure that, once inside Outlook, the
columns are correctly labelled.
