Outlook 2000 export problem

When I try to export my contacts, Outlook terminates with an error.  When I
look in the event log, it gives an event ID of 1000.  I never get any error
messages except the generic one about a program has failed and must
terminate.  I have checked the Microsoft KB and could not find anything about
this error.  I have removed and reinstalled Office, installed the latest
service pack and I still get the same error.  Here is what I do:
Click FIle
Click Import/Export
Select Export to a file
Click Next and then Outlook terminates.

I have sent the error report but I don't expect an answer.
Any Help would be appreciated

What's the purpose of the export?  Maybe there's another approach that can
circumvent the problem.

A couple of things to look at:

#1 - If you have any kind of addins such as Anti-Spam programs - disable
them and try it (have seen this issue reported where the person had McAfee
Spam Killer installed - problem went away when it was disabled)

#2 - Create a new profile and try your export again and see if it still
occurs. If it does - recreate your original profile.

These may not solve your problem but are at least worth checking/trying.

(1) I do not have any anti-spam programs running

(2) How do I create a new profile in Outlook 2000?  Is that a new .pst file
from File-New?

Back to the original question - why is Outlook crashing when I try to export
something?

If you're not running in Corporate/Workgroup mode - then you won't have
profiles.

As for your question - answer= could be caused by any number of things (the
2 I mentioned solved the problem for 2 other people who reported the same
Event ID issue in other forums). Could be as simple as your installation of
Outlook having become corrupted for whatever reason or a 3rd party product
interfering or, or, or......... Personally have never had any issues with
exporting from any version of Outlook so from this point on will leave it to
others if they have any other  possible causes.

That depends on how it's installed.  If it is installed in
Corporate/Workgroup mode, then the Mail applet in Control Panel will allow
you to create a new profile.  If it is installed in Internet Mail Only mode,
then you have to edit the registry.  Help>About will tell you the mode.

Again, it may be difficult to determine.  Why not state the purpose of the
export?

The purpose of the export is to import them into a different PIM.

How can I find out why OUTLOOK is crashing?  Would having Dr. Watson running
capture anything useful?

Thank you,

OK.  I guess the export is necessary, then.

Have you tried running Help>Detect and repair?  You'll need your Outlook
installation kit.

I tried the repair and got the same problem.

Has the art of debugging a program from a dump been lost?  I have been
writing code for 40+ years and have always been able to debug my program
failures from dumps.  Does anyone from Microsoft look at these posts?  Do
they have access to the source and the ability to read a dump?  Or is the
soluton to problems, try to reinstall and if that doesn't work, buy the new
version?
