How do I elimiate the +1 that's added to phone numbers?

I sucesfully imported data into Contacts. However all of the phone numbers
are now have a +1 prefix. This orihinal database did not have this
characteristic.

Turn off that option before you do the import.

To rephrase my question:  "Where do I find the option to turn off +1?"

In Outlook's dialing options:
Contacts > Actions > Call Contact > New call...
