How Editable is the Outlook .NK2 file?

Greetings,

I recently had some corruption in my NK2 file, the one that keeps track of
your nicknames used so you only have to type a few letters of a recipient's
name and it fills the rest in. I've read before that renaming it to
something else (.old) makes Outlook create a new one which fixes the
problem.

It made me wonder, though, whether it's possible to edit that file in some
program in case that's needed. I tried opening it in a text editor but it
didn't look very friendly. Just curious. Thanks for a reply :)

Not natively. There is a third party utility that lets you do so:

Diane,

It is important to note a significant difference between Ingressor and the
nk2csv products.  The latter only reads smtp email addresses, not Exchange
entries.  Further, it doesn't provide the name that corresponds to that smtp
record.

Most Ingressor customers purchase our product to edit the Exchange x500 data
to sync. it with the AD or, purchase it to quickly and globally change
erroneous records (smtp or exchange or fax) without the need to export, then
create a new NK2 file. It will also add a record, name AND smtp address from
the Ingressor GUI.

However, that said, for the ability to read email addresses only, the nk2csv
does satisfy the need at is affordable at the "free" price.

DO NOT USE INGRESSOR!  Their customer service is horribly rude, and I never
received the product that I paid for (they never sent a working code to
unlock the free software).

I downloaded the software, and the code they emailed me to unlock it did not
work. Randy kept insisting that I had "clearly" tried to download it to more
than one computer (in other words, steal their software), and would not give
me another one, or work with me to try and figure out what had happened. He
said that he wouldn't give me a phone number to speak on the phone to try and
figure out the discrepancy because he didnt want to "waste time on it."

Randy would only insist that I was trying to cheat him out of money, because
he "knows how their software works" insisting that I had tried to download
the product to more than one computer. I kept telling him that I only own one
computer, so there had to be a discrepancy, and suggested that he try and
look up whether the activation code I was sent had ever been used. He never
responded ot this suggestion, and insisted that I was wrong and he was right.
He is patronizing, unhelpful, and accusatory of a customer who was only
trying to use his product - in addition to being incredibly rude and (I
assume) insecure.

Ultimately, I won the disputed charge with American Express after sending
them copies of our email exchanges. Be wary of dealing with this company, as
their customer service is horrendous and you might never receive the product
you paid for.
