My hard drive crashed and CompUSA put all my data on an external drive.  I
used my XP recovery disks, and then reinstalled my OfficeXP disk.  When I
search my external drive for .pst files, I get two Office Data Files, one
says archive and the other outlook.  I cannot open either one.  I have read
through many other questions and tried many of the suggestions, but I have
not yet been able to get my "saved" contacts into my "new" outlook.  Thanks
for any help!

First. Any .pst files have to be in a read/write area of the hard drive.
For instance - you cannot open or import a .pst file that is on a CD/DVD
that many recovery services use.

But you do not have this problem because you said it is on a hard drive.
Assuming this is some second/slave drive in your system, and seeing
as how you know the exact location of the file....
What happens, when in Outlook, you do File -> Open -> Outlook Data File
Then browse to the hard disc location and try to open the data file ?
