How do I count the number of entries in a view?

Is there a way to automatically count the number of entries in a contact view?

That's what the status bar does automatically. Display it.

the filter bar show total entries in contacts, I want the total for a
particular view

Then I assume the question you were really trying to ask is how to show the
number of Contacts in a Filtered view?
If so, Outlook does not do that natively.
If not, then post more clearly.
