Does Microsoft TAPI support "+" as a phone prefix for a Contact

For example in a phone number I want to list it as  +1-222-333-4444
Is this "+" symbol supported within the Microsoft TAPI standard?

Not an Outlook question. Outlook uses the Windows dialer.
