How do I move the old address book from a renamed personal folders file into
the new personal folders file. The old file had become corrupted and I
couldn't download new messages so had to create a new file. Works fine now,
but no entries are in the address book.

There is no address book in Outlook. All data is in your Contacts Folder.
All you need to do is configure your Outlook Address Book. Method depends on
your Outlook version which you neglected to post. Since there are thousands
of posts on how to do this in this group, just find one that fits your
version.
