Change a contact category for about 40 contacts -

Select the 40 Contacts
R click > Categories...

Alternatively to Russ' advice, you can also view your Contacts by category,
select all the contacts in the category,  and drag them to the category
where you want them.

Actually, no. That doesn't change a category, it adds a category.
