blanks at beginning of contacts

I have these blanks at the beginning of my Contacts folder ... and when you
click on the blank it turns out to be a deleted task.  Why are they there and
how can I prevent them from forming?  I delete them and then soon they start
to appear again.

If this happened to me, I'd start Outlook once with the /resetfolders
command line switch.
