I was in word and clicked help-detect and repair. after this I lost my
outlook contacts/inbox/sent box :( I reconfugured email and got a few emails
in and entered the addresses into contacts. When typing in the "Display As"
box when I typed "B" all the old names in my contact list from the "B" list
dropped down. There they were, all the lost contact names. For every letter
of the alphabet I could see the lost names. How do I retrieve the contacts
and my sent box and inbox data?

That data you are seeing is from your autocompletion cache, not your
Contacts and not your Outlook Data File.
Detect and Repair never loses data. Never.
At the most, it may have created a new profile with a new empty data file.
If so, your previous Outlook Data File is still around. Open each PST file
you find on your hard drive until you find it until you find it.
