For some reason, each contact with an email address now has SMTP at the end
of the email address, and I cannot get rid of the SMTP.  Is there a setting
somewhere that is adding the SMTP to the end?

In what view do you see this "SMTP"?  Can you give an example?  Can you
state your Outlook version?
