For each Contact, under the General Tab there is a field: Contacts ...
Over the years I've carefully associated contacts with each other through
this field for easy shopping. After upgrade to 2003, these links are all dead
and seem to refer to a shared calender, which I do not use. Is this a side
effect of the dreaded Business Contact Manager? Can it be fixed? I have found
that if I delete the names and go through the process of associating again,
it works. Is there a simpler way?
Thanks in advance.

The associations remain intact if you migrate your data correctly.
Apparently, you did not.
Hard to know, since you posted no information in that regard.

How does a shared calendar come into play?
