I am entering a lot of new contacts from which I will create distribution
lists. After entering the contact, I select the 'save and new' function and
it does not work, a dialog box appears which states 'a dialog box is open,
close it and try again'. The only other dialog box open is the address book
where I select new contact to create the contact and you can't close it
without doing a 'save and close' on the contact I've just entered.

Why would the address book be open?
You should never enter information in the address book. Nothing is stored
there.
You enter Contact information in a Contacts Folder.
