We al communicate on seven pcs using an exchange server. We all use the
identical outlook 2003 install on all pcs. One pc does not show the 'share my
contacts' option in the navigation pane and the sharing is grayed out in the
folder. This pc can readily  access other pc's contacts and handles exchange
email just fine.
Any advise?

Check where the user is having their mail delivered to. If it's a Personal
Folder file they won't be able to share. You can find that info here: Tools
menu > Email accounts > View/Change existing accounts > Click Next. There
should be a dropdown that defines the delivery location for mail
