I am trying to add my contacts to my outlook address book but when I try to
do that it is greyed out.  So I tried to add an address book and it told me
that it neede to be re-configured? Does any one know how to do this?

What version of Outlook are you using?

same problem:  current outlook is 2002 installed from Office XP.
(machine came installed with time-sensitive Office suite. I uninstalled
the crippled version and installed Office XP from the machine which was
replaced by this new machine)

My contacts came thru as an outlook view.  As an address book, there are
not visible.

as a secondary question, is there an operational log that I can review to
identify the context of errors?

Start with a new mail profile, adding in your account information, data
files, and address book service before opening Outlook.
