I am using Outlook 2003 (Windows XP).  I've created a public address book.
For some reason, a few of the contacts can't be opened and I receive "Can't
open this item.  The operation failed."  Any suggestions?

What do you mean by "public address book"?

I created a customer list (modified Outlook's contact form) that can be
viewed and modified by all employees.  It's stored through Exchange Server
2003 and viewed through Outlook 2003.

So you mean a public contacts folder?

Yes - It contains around 1600 contacts.  Occassionally, one of the contacts
in the folder will display the subject message and I can't figure out what
would cause that to happen.

Perhaps because it is a public folder, it is an Exchange issue.  Have you
asked in the Exchange newsgroups?
