Can anyone tell me how to create a new option for the phone list ?

I need to add a new option (in drop down menu) for entering phone numbers in
contacts. There are several but I need to add "Direct Line" and I have had no
luck. Can someone help me?

You can stop banging your head against the wall. It is not possible to add a new phone number field to the dropdown or to rename an existing phone number field. You'll need to use one of the existing choices.
