This somewhat stumps me since there is a "Nickname" field in Contacts on
Outlook when I open up a contact and go to the "Details" tab. Wouldn't that
suggest that the field should be available for importing from another file?

As you've discovered - the Outlook import/export wizard does not include a
full list of available fields (nickname being one of those not included).
Outlook imports/exports a little over 80 fields (our field list for
importing & exporting runs somewhere around 110+ which still isn't a totally
complete list but does cover just about every mainstream field).
