How is File As set when synching directly to Exchange?

Hello,

We use a Pumatech/Intellisync/Nokia product that uses MAPI to synchronize
information from our (posing) XML Server to Exchange Server.  The vendor
software for synching offers us the ability to map the "File As" field for
synching, however we do not store such information in our application
therefore we don't ma/send p this information when synching Contact data.

We have a client who uses the option for their users File As setting for
Company Name first, then Contact Name.  Obviously, this is a client-side
setting within Outlook which only applies to new records created manually
through Outlook.

The twist is, when the information is created on Exchange through the sync
process, somewhere it's picking up a default File As type of Last Name,
First Name.  Coincidently, this is also the first option available in
Outlook when choosing a default File As field.

So my questions are:

1) Is there a setting in Exchange to pre-set a File As value for new
records?
2) If Exchange is not setting the default value, if the contact is created
in Exchange through the sync process, does the File As get set by Outlook if
it detects there is an absense of a File As value?  Meaning, when the
contact appears in the users Outlook view does Outlook detect the absense
and fill in that field?  If so, would it not use the default setting?  But
that setting is used for "New" contacts, not existing so why would it?
3) If the value is being set from the top menu choice in the list, where is
this list stored (cfg file? registry?) so that I can change the sort order.

So basically.. I'm looking for a good schooling on how/what File As actually
stores and if there is anything happening server-side we can configure
before hand to get the default a different way than what it's picking.  I'm
gather, since it's setting it to "something", it has to be pulling this
setting from somewhere.

I've asked the vendor this very question as well, so I'll post should I hear
further information as well but wanted to check with the community on this
tricky situation.

Thanks,

Bump.  Can anyone answer this?  I know it seems more like an Outlook
developer question, or someone who knows exactly how/where the File As
defaults are stored and assigned.

I've finally gotten a hold of Intellisync Support, maybe they will have an
answer, if so I will post it but I'd still like to hear from anyone else in
the community regarding my concern.
