In Contacts (Office2003) I can easily add a picture to a specific contact.  I
have successfully imported records to a group of public folders by mapping
the imported fields to outlook fields.  I can't find the field to map to for
the picture field in contacts.  Can you tell me what it is and what format
the picture has to be in?

It is not possible to import pictures into contacts.

I am sorry to hear that.  If I create a custom form based on the default
contact form, can I then import a picture?  What about to a custom field?
Why can you not import a picture since it is obviously a field in the form?

The contact picture is not a field in a form. If you did your homework with Outlook Spy or MFCMAPI, you'd see it's an attachment with a specific filename. What's not exposed is the mechanism that converts a particular image to the smaller format that the picture uses. I've looked long and hard and haven't found it.

See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/formpicture.htm for other approaches.
