The New Letter to Contact Wizard is poor.
Why not just create the letter in Word and use the Insert Address function
to insert the Contact information?

I'm not familiar with the use of the Insert Address function except with
envelopes and labels. I was not able to find it to insert an address in a
Word document.
My goal is to eliminate keying & multiple actions. Is it possible to create
a letter template that inserts the contact information automatically? The
mail merge is too cumbersome for one letter.

Most users just customize their Word Toolbar to add the "Insert Address"
icon.
You can also save a merge document for reuse and create a letter as a mail
merge from Outlook, but as you say, mail merge is way too hard for just one
letter.
As you can see, the integration between Outlook and Word leaves a lot to be
desired. Sadly, I see no improvement on that front in upcoming versions. It
only gets worse.
