Another NK2 Problem!

Hi there, I know there has been millions of threads about .NK2  problems and
I have probably looked through 90% of them but can't find the answer so here
goes;

Some work collegues are encountering problems with the autocomplete function
every now and again. I know how the nk2 file works (it updates everytime you
close outlook) however on occasions they have started up their machines,
opened Outlook 2002 and all of a sudden, the autoupdate list is empty (after
entering first three letters in the 'To' section). I have been told by my
collegues that this happens every now and then, usually once a week. I have
found that after a restart or two, the autocomplete function works again,
complete with all of the previously stored addresses.

However I want to know what is causing this in the first place so they don't
have to restart their machines.

The only threads I have found have been people who's autocomplete function
doesn't work at all and have to change profiles etc, so this must be a
different problem,

I have also thought that the list is full (1000 addresses) but I ran a
utility that shows that my collegues list only contains 500 at the most, so
this is also not the problem.

Has anyone experienced this? And more importantly found a solution??

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

Nope.  It updates every time you resolve an address.

When the autocompletion process doesn't work, it's usually a problem in the
mail profile.  There's no good way to repair the connection between the NK2
file and a mail profile, to the best of my knowledge.  Most people create a
new mail profile and then rename the NK2 file to match the profile's name.

Ok. Thanks, I have changed the mailbox and name of the nk2 file, so I will
wait and see if it works,

Thanks again,

Chris

it's not saved on the hard drive until you close outlook. if outlook
crashes, you new entries created during the current session aren't added to
the NK2.

No need to rename the NK2 file if it's empty. Just let the new profile
create its own NK2 file.
Turns out a lot of these problems arise from the NK2 file getting marked as
read only by AV programs.
