exported contacts to new pc

I used Export/Import and backup.pst, but my new pc does not have the
categories that were assigned.  I followed the steps.  What happened?

What happened is that you exported and imported.  Never a good idea because
it loses data.  See this:

Are you saying that the individual data items no longer show the categories they had on the old machine? Or that the Categories dialog doesn't show the same list as on the old machine?
